When menstruation starts in puberty, when bleeding is very irregular or painful, for advice on contraception or cervical cancer vaccination (HPV vaccination). Of course also for other problems or illnesses that belong to this area of expertise. There is no specific age at which examinations must take place.

From the age of 20, German legislation provides for the possibility of an annual preventive medical check-up. Even if no acute complaints exist, you should take advantage of this offer.

On your very first visit to the practice, if you wish, there will only be a conversation to get to know each other. The doctor will ask a few questions about your medical history, family medical history, allergies, operations, vaccinations (HPV vaccination), your periods and any existing complaints. A physical examination is always useful so we always explain the individual examination steps. If you wish to choose a contraceptive method, we will also ask about your weight, height and nicotine consumption. So there is no reason to be afraid.

When it is your turn, a doctor's assistant will call you into the examination room. If necessary, preparatory examinations (blood pressure, weight, taking blood samples, etc.) will be carried out. Until the doctor arrives, you will wait at the desk without undressing.

After a short conversation in which you explain your complaints or the reason for your visit, the physical examination will follow.

First, the lower abdomen is examined on the examination chair. After getting dressed again, the breast is examined if necessary. For this, you only need to uncover your upper body.

So you don't have to take off all your clothes or wait for the doctor half undressed!

Finally, the findings and any necessary treatment are discussed at the desk.

At any time, you can be accompanied by a person you trust. You can decide whether that person should be present not only for the interview, but also during the physical examination.

Cancer screening should usually be done once a calendar year. If hormones or a contraceptive method is used, you should have a check-up every six months for your own safety. If necessary, the doctor will also ask you for a check-up appointment earlier on.
